Wow, I really feel like I am behind on my reading! Seeing the title in the NWREporter (Northwest REporter is published by NWMLS, SKCAR, SCCAR)
Do You Know Your Clients as Well as Yahoo Does?
I just had to hit the link and find out what Yahoo knows that I didn’t know! I read the article written by Jeremy Conaway, but had to Google Yahoo search for the original article posted by Yahoo! Real Estate.
EMBRACING THE ONLINE REAL ESTATE MARKET
Original Research Commissioned by
Yahoo! Real Estate
What really hit me was this following comment about the Online Real Estate Consumer – read the definition of the typical online consumer! Look at those ages! Wow! For the last year, I have been reading tons of stuff about the “X,Y,Z” generations and how we all need to geek gear up for the new wave of home buyers.
Now, my kids and my husband are of those generations, but I am a Baby Boomer and proud of it! Of course I am a geek internet savvy Baby Boomer and offer all of the services of the new generations because that is what we have been told is the wave of the future.
Hmmm, or is it? Maybe I need to slow my roll when it comes to high tech a bit. Maybe I need do more research on what a 45-year-old consumer wants. Oh, I find it all so fascinating!
Online Real Estate Consumer
The typical online real estate consumer is 45 years old (with almost one-half
between the ages of 35-54). Women make up 51% of the online real estate
market. 72% of these in-market consumers currently own real estate property
and a detached single-family house is the primary residence type for 73% of
these owners.
Reading through the report was fascinating to me. I was very interested in the consumer profiles that Yahoo defined (see the chart on page 5 of the report).

Sometimes I find it confusing on what an online consumer is looking for, what they are interested in and really, who they are. These four definitions and accompanying data really can give you an insight on target marketing.
